As has been a tradition for two decades, SWR is bringing together six singers who have qualified at international singing competitions and are on the verge of an operatic career at the Jugendstilfesthalle in Landau (Palatinate). In a gala concert with opera arias, the participants present themselves in two rounds of competition for the highly endowed Emmerich Smola Award. The jury is the Landau concert audience - as recommended by the prize's namesake, the legendary chief conductor of the Kaiserslautern Radio Orchestra.
